art for the interiors
It is said that the mind’s eye is the most creative. Local artist Calvin “Jack” Jackson is happy that gift stayed with him long after a 1998 auto accident took away perfect vision. Diagnosed with Stargardt’s, a condition allowing only peripheral vision and causing sensitivity to light, Jack went back to his design roots. To understand the present, one must revisit the past.
artist bio
As a 1985 graduate of the Fashion Institute of Atlanta (now The Art Institute of Atlanta) Jack quickly jumped into the fashion scene. He worked long hours to hone his skills in hair and makeup while perfecting his creative side as a fashion illustrator. But it was his interest in window dressing that took his art to new heights. His displays for the top boutiques of Buckhead in the 80’s caught the attention of many of the movers and shakers in fashion and led to his recognition as one of the top three professionals in the city.
When asked what brought inspiration when planning visual displays and window dressings, Jack’s response was always the same: Vogue Magazine. Vogue represented the epitome of style, fashion and design aesthetics. His collection of magazines formed the dining room table in his bachelor apartment, instant inspiration to the budding artist, no doubt!
Due to his visual impairment, he now approaches the pages of vogue in a different manner. His interpretation of lights and darks, shapes and shadows has resulted in a truly unique new collection of paintings delivered in the purest abstract form.
With a clear vision set in his mind’s eye, he creates truly extraordinary art. Calvin is able to interpret light and colors in a unique way. No other artist sees the world, shapes and movement the way that he does. Look for great things from Calvin.
